AFTER-EFFECTS OF SURGERY:
The aftermath of the surgery is therefore very simple and rapid with a return to normal activity as of the 8th day. You will keep a bandage around your head for 24 hours. There is little or no pain, easily treated by standard painkillers.
You can wash your hair the day after the operation, as long as you don’t put water on your ears (protect them with a bowl or large cup). You must not wear glasses or sleep on your ears for the first 2 weeks, and you will wear a headband, day and night for the first week, then only at night for the second week.
Your ears will remain as if bound for one month, during which you must not expose them to sunlight. Rough sports and wearing a motorcycle helmet should be avoided for 3 months. In fact, you must avoid any blow to your ears in this period.
The result is therefore spectacular with a completely natural look and lasts a long time.
However, complications are always possible, even if every effort is made to avoid them.
So you should be aware that they may occur and you will have been given a list of possible complications in your pre-surgery consultation. These are the main complications:
• Bruising • Ear infections or abscess that may turn into a serious chondritis with risk of unsightly atrophy of the external ear. This involves hospitalization for antibiotic drip-feed. • Ears only partially (upper tip, lobe) tucked or not at all • Recurrence of protrusion after a few weeks • Scar split, hypertrophied scar, keloid scar • Skin ulceration
Just because these complications are very rare is no reason not to know about them!
